Nigeria’s Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo has urged Nigerians to give the incoming administration the maximum support to enable them succeed. He made this call at the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Stakeholders Conference which held lately at the Main Conference Auditorium of the National Mosque Complex in Abuja.
“Government as you are aware is a continuum and with the coming of a new democratic dispensation, it has ushered in a new government which will soon be inaugurated. I urge you to continue to give them maximum support and cooperation to enable them succeed,” he said.
Namadi Sambo, who noted the contributions of the MSSN in positively shaping the moral upbringing of the Muslim youth expressed delight that it has remained one of the veritable tools for grooming youths to become responsible future leaders for the emergence of outstanding and eminent personalities. He averred that the MSSN has continued to promote national unity and harmony in the country.
While assuring the Federal Government’s support to the forum and all others with similar objectives, he inferred that government will do its best to encourage them to achieve peace and stability by forging inter and intra religious harmony.
The Vice President stressed the need for the MSSN and the entire Muslim Ummah to propagate the true message of Islam as encapsulated in the Glorious Qur’an, Hadith and Sunnah. Adding, the message of Islam is the message of peace, hope, harmony, goodwill and brotherhood. He congratulated MSSN for successfully celebrating its 60th anniversary, having been founded in 1954.
Sambo further expressed worry over the absence of a befitting national monument as its headquarters; reiterating that as a student member in his secondary and university days and now a stakeholder, he promises to offer his unalloyed support within and outside government circles, whenever the need arises.
The Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau as well as other speakers at the event congratulated the leadership of the MSSN for convening the conference, describing it as very important and timely. He particularly challenged the current leadership of MSSN to create a register of all past leaders of MSSN from the national to local level.
Speaking earlier, the National President of MSSN, Sirajudeen Abdul-Azeez Folayemi stated that the stakeholders’ conference was convened to enable past and present leaders of the organization brainstorm on repositioning it to face modern challenges in Islamic propagation. He also congratulated the Federal Government for the successes recorded in the fight against terrorism and other social vices, appealing that Government should bring to justice the killers of Ahmad Mustapha Falaki (Professor), former National President of the organization.
