The West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) has unveiled its lineup of distinguished speakers for the 2025 Education Conference, set to take place from October 12 to 15 at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria. The event is expected to bring together around 150 insurance professionals, regulators, and stakeholders from across West Africa and beyond, fostering dialogue and collaboration within the region’s insurance sector.
Themed around innovation, education, and regional development, the conference aims to explore new frontiers in insurance education and knowledge-sharing across member countries. Delegates from Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and other parts of West Africa are slated to participate in the four-day event, which will feature presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities.

Among the key speakers announced is Mr. Bockarie Kaloko, Deputy Minister of Finance from the Republic of Sierra Leone. His presence underscores the growing role of government in shaping and supporting the insurance industry across the region. Kaloko is expected to deliver insights on public policy, economic development, and the strategic importance of insurance in nation-building.
Another featured speaker is Mr. Wole Oshin, Group Managing Director of Custodian Investment Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading insurance and investment companies. Oshin, known for his extensive experience in the sector, will speak on leadership, innovation, and the role of private enterprise in advancing insurance education and capacity building.
The conference will also host technical sessions focusing on a range of critical issues facing the insurance industry in West Africa. These include digital transformation, regulatory harmonization, talent development, financial inclusion, and climate risk management. With the insurance sector in the region evolving rapidly, organizers say the 2025 conference will be a timely opportunity to evaluate progress and set new priorities.
WAICA’s Secretary-General, Mr. William Coker, emphasized the significance of the event in a recent statement. “Our Education Conference is one of WAICA’s flagship programs, and the 2025 edition promises to be impactful, with a strong lineup of speakers and an engaging program agenda. It is a platform for learning, networking, and collective problem-solving across the West African insurance landscape.”
WAICA has, over the years, championed the development of the insurance industry in the region through training, advocacy, and partnership. Its education conferences are held periodically to address capacity gaps and promote best practices among members. This year’s edition in Lagos is expected to focus heavily on youth engagement and the integration of modern technology into insurance practice.
According to the organizers, this year’s event will also feature a special session dedicated to young professionals and students, designed to expose them to opportunities in the industry and encourage their involvement in shaping the sector’s future. With the increasing relevance of tech-driven solutions and data analytics in risk management and underwriting, the conference aims to bridge the gap between traditional insurance practices and modern innovations.
In addition to the learning opportunities, the conference will serve as a platform for strengthening regional cooperation among insurance companies and regulators. As many countries in West Africa seek to harmonize insurance regulations and expand cross-border services, such gatherings provide critical space for dialogue and consensus-building.
The Nigerian insurance sector, which will host this year’s event, has shown signs of steady growth and innovation, making Lagos a fitting location. With a large number of licensed insurers, brokers, and a growing customer base, Nigeria remains a vital hub for insurance activities in the region.
Preparations are already underway to ensure the smooth hosting of the event, with the WAICA Secretariat working closely with Nigerian stakeholders to finalize logistics, accommodation, and programming. Participants are expected to register in advance through the association’s official platform, and further details regarding the full list of speakers and session topics will be released in the coming months.
As the countdown begins, expectations are high that the 2025 WAICA Education Conference will serve not just as a training ground, but also as a catalyst for strategic growth and cooperation in the region’s insurance industry.
