The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has announced that it is prepared to send troops to Niger as part of the standby force.
This was disclosed on Thursday in Accra, the capital of Ghana, by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa.
We support and promote democracy because it is the best system. It is not the purpose of our meeting to just react to events, but rather to proactively plot a route that brings about peace and supports stability,” he said.

According to Al Jazeera’s reporting, ECOWAS commissioner Abdel-Fatau Musah said that all member states had expressed preparedness to engage in the standby force, with the exception of countries under military rule and Cape Verde.
According to Infostride news’ reporting, ECOWAS issued a seven-day ultimatum to the military to reinstate the elected president after presidential guards took power from President Mohamed Bazoum.
A schism between coastal countries and those in the dangerous Sahel was exposed when the juntas in Mali and Burkina Faso responded to the ECOWAS threat by declaring any military action in the Niger Republic an act of war.
