Members of the Ogun State Elders’ Consultative Forum will continue to play non-partisan roles and regularly offer useful advices on how government could continually ensure the general well-being of residents of the State.
The Forum Chairman, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN) gave this assurance in his remarks at forum’s end of the year plenary session held at the Crescent University Main Hall in Abeokuta.
Prince Ajibola declared that the body made up of committed senior citizens from varied background would remain independent and continue to work for genuine peace, stability and economic growth of the State.
Speaking on the “state of the State”, Prince Ajibola called on residents to see the current pains being experienced as a result of the massive infrastructural developments in the different parts as momentary price they have to pay for a long term blissful living, adding that the State Government meant well for the generality of the people.
His words “The Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun had severely explained to us that his intention is to give our cities modern looks as against the dilapidated look of many of our major cities in the State, and the only permanent thing in life is change and we all need to be patient with the government as the outcome promises to be well with all and sundry”.
He enjoined the State and Federal Governments to take urgent and necessary steps to stop the Republic of Benin in its track as it was making move to claim the Tongeji Island in Ipokia Local Government Area of the State.
Prince Ajibola said the call became imperative to prevent a repetition of what happened to the country on the Bakasi Peninsular.
Also addressing the gathering, Chairman of the Forum’s economic committee, Professor Akin Mabogunje commended the initiatives of the State Government but called on it to give more attention to boundary matters.
