The national chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has congratulated Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the party’s candidate in the September 10 governorship election for Edo State, three weeks after he emerged winner of the primary election.
Odigie-Oyegun was said to have been against the candidacy of Obaseki as the party’s flagbearer, which had caused disagreements between him and the state executive.
Obaseki, however, was the favourite of Edo APC and the outgoing governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
It was gathered that the Chairman eventually accepted Obaseki because of the ultimate goal of ensuring the party retains the governorship seat in the state.
In his congratulatory message, the APC leader called on all to back Obaseki for victory at the polls.
He also commended the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari for leading a seven-member election committee to conducting a very transparent, free, fair and credible governorship primaries.
“As the Party prepares for the September 10, 2016, governorship election in Edo State, I call on all aspirants, party leaders, stakeholders and teeming members of our great Party to close ranks and unite as a strong political fighting force behind the candidature of Mr. Godwin Obaseki for a landslide victory at the forthcoming Edo State governorship election,” Odigie-Oyegun said.
He urged all aspirants and other party members to avoid any action that can create division within the party, as all the party needs at now if the cooperation of all in order to achieve victory at the polls in September.
