Naim Qassem, the deputy chief of Hezbollah, stated on Friday that the organization would not be swayed by requests for it to remain on the sidelines of the continuing confrontation between Israel and Hamas.
He claimed that the party was “fully ready” to contribute to the battle and that the group would not be swayed by pleas for it to remain on the sidelines.
“The behind-the-scenes calls with us by great powers, Arab countries, and envoys of the United Nations, directly and indirectly telling us not to interfere will have no effect,” he told supporters who had gathered in the southern Beirut suburb for a rally. “The calls will have no effect.”
“Hezbollah is completely aware of its responsibilities. “We are prepared and ready, fully ready,” stated Qassem. “We are fully ready.”
In the past week, the organization has already engaged in many violent confrontations with Israeli forces across the border in Lebanon.
These clashes have been the worst since Israel and Lebanon fought a month-long war in 2006.
Following the attack by members of the Palestinian faction Hamas against Israeli towns and Israel’s subsequent bombardment of the Gaza Strip in retaliation for the attack, rocket fire and shelling from across the border ensued.
However, according to some sources, Hezbollah has planned its actions up to this point to have a limited scope.
This will avoid a significant spillover into Lebanon while keeping Israeli forces occupied.
“The question that is being asked, which everyone is waiting for, is: what Hezbollah will do, and what will its contribution be?” According to Qassem.
Within the framework of our strategy, we shall participate in the conflict. In addition, he stated that “when the time comes for any action, we will carry it out.”
