According to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who has defected from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he made the move because he wants the South-East to unite behind President Bola Tinubu’s centralized government.
Ubah made this statement on Thursday during a visit to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
He was grateful to the party’s top brass for welcoming him into the fold.
Despite the party’s poor showing in the South-East in the 2023 presidential election, Ubah praised President Tinubu for naming Dave Umahi as Minister of Works.
Because our president is rewarding everyone, including those who didn’t vote for him, any guy with a moral compass would be wise to consider where the center party is headed.
“I don’t see anyone who will oppose my coming into the APC,” he declared.
Ubah noted that before defecting to the APC, he had extensive discussions with his political family and other stakeholders in the South-East.
Take it from me, Mr. President: I am not just going to talk the talk, I am going to walk the walk.
In front of the Senate President, I voiced my concerns to President Tinubu, and he has graciously assured me that he will back my efforts.
I’m going to be really honest with you: the Igbo have always struggled to fully identify with the national party.
Our president is a politician with empathy and the ability to comfort those in need. He is capable of doing it,” he concluded.
Upon meeting Ubah, Ganduje proclaimed him to be the most prominent new APC member since he became party chairman.
The largest fish Ganduje has ever caught.
He said he was confident the party would sweep the South and East in the upcoming elections in light of Ubah’s defection.
