Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has clarified why he is unwilling to form a coalition with the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, citing fundamental differences in their political ideologies.
In a recent appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Sowore argued that Obi is no different from other politicians he perceives as corrupt, emphasizing that Obi’s appeal lies primarily in his “packaging.”
“Before you discovered Peter Obi, I was already running for President. All these shouts about Peter Obi, he just knows how to package. Anyone can do it,” Sowore stated.

He further explained that aligning with Obi would contradict his principles, particularly his stance against supporting politicians who have held previous political office yet, in his view, failed to perform effectively.
“It’s the same reason I would never have joined hands with Atiku. And the Peter Obi you are talking about was Vice Presidential candidate to Atiku when I was a presidential candidate in 2019.
So, what are we talking about? There is no lesser evil in my book. If you are evil, you are evil. If you are good, you are good,” he said, expressing his “general disdain for non-performance.”
