Governor Peter Obi said that the support his Government was offering to higher institutions in Anambra State was in line with the policy of his Government to offer support to all organizations and institutions domiciled in Anambra State, whether private, public or Government-owned provided their services were for the good of the people of the State.

He said this yesterday while presenting a cheque of N100m and four brand new vehicles and a 50 Kva generator to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka for development projects, including construction of internal roads in the University.

The Governor who had extended the same support to Paul University, Awka; Madonna University, Okija; Tansian University, Umunya assured that all higher institutions in the State will get theirs.

He expressed optimism that the support would impact positively on the institutions. He also promised to provide the school with a life saver ambulance.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Boniface Egboka, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Greg Nwokobi thanked the Governor for the gesture.

Recalling the Governor’s previous support to the university, including the provision of a Toyota Coaster bus,a Nissan Civilian Bus, Toyota bus for the Faculty of Law, the rehabilitation of Ifite-Amansea- University road, he said that Gov. Obi had offered more support than all the former Governors in the history of the school, including when it was a State university.

“Never before in the University’s thirty-four years history, first as a State University and later as a Federal University has it been the beneficiary of such highly commendable level of attention from any Chief Executive of Anambra State.

If your positive attention to Nnamdi Azikiwe is described as astonishing, then your relentless drive towards the transformation of Anambra State, even in the twilight of your Administration, could be said to be both captivating and mesmerizing,” Prof. Egboka said.

Further, Prof Egboka noted that through Anambra Integrated Development Strategy (ANIDS), that Gov. Obi had achieved holistic and comprehensive development of the State, with every segment of the society experiencing positive changes.

Speaking at the event, the Director of Ekwueme Centre for multiple- discipline Research, Venerable Prof. Israel Okoye said the Governor had accomplished his mission of re-defining governance by putting the welfare of the people above every other consideration.

He noted that the Governor had become a role model for the younger generation, adding that his support for Ekwueme Centre of the university would encourage the work of the Centre in all ramifications.
