Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has dissolved the State Independent Electoral Commission and the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission.
The dissolution came on the heels of the State House of Assembly’s earlier directive to the governor to dissolve the two commissions.
The House had summoned the chairmen and members of the commissions to give account of their activities within the last two years.
Apparently dissatisfied with their explanations, the state lawmakers on Monday empowered the governor to sack the commissioners and dissolve the commissions.
In a terse statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Sir Opunabo Inko-Tariah, the governor noted that he acted in line with the directive of the House on grounds of official misconduct leveled against the commissions.
