Abuja (Women Affairs Ministry Report) – The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Zainab Maina has pledged to persist in boosting the morale of staff towards ensuring that the mandate of the Ministry is carried out, especially in actualizing the Transformation Agenda of Government.
Zainab Maina made the pledge in Abuja while commissioning four newly acquired buses to ease the transportation challenges of junior and middle cadre staff in the Ministry. She added that the gesture was in fulfillment of the promise to the Joint-Staff Unions that staff of the Ministry would be encouraged through the provision of buses, welfare packages and other incentives.
“As you are very much aware, our mandate requires us to address the issues and concerns of over 70 percent of our country’s population which includes: women, children, persons with disabilities and the aged, among others. I therefore charge you to work harder and support all efforts aimed at achieving the target set by the present Administration under the Transformation Agenda, especially as they relate to Gender and the Social Development Sub-Sectors,” she said.
The Minister emphasized the need for loyalty, sacrifice and commitment to duty, assuring that government will continue to support and encourage members of staff within available resources.
While responding on behalf of the Joint Unions, the Chairman of the Nigerian Civil Service Union in the Ministry, Benson Linus (Comrade) thanked President Goodluck Jonathan; the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Bukar Goni Aji and the Minister for making their dreams come true.
He further assured the Minister that the staff of the Ministry will continue to put in their best towards addressing the issues and concerns of women, children and persons with disabilities as well as the elderly.
