The World Trade Organisation has postponed a meeting for the selection of the new Director-General of the WTO scheduled for November 9.

The meeting which was supposed to hold tommorow during which member countries would review the selection of the next Director- General of the World Trade Organization.
The new development will delay Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, of Nigeria, from being confirmed as the first woman to head the World Trade Organization since inception.
According to the WTO, the meeting has been postponed indefinitely and the chairman of the general council will continue to deliberate with member countries on the selection of the next Director-General of the WTO.
This is coming after the US opposed Okonjo- Iweala’s bid and preferred South Korean Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee to be elected as the next Director-General.
Recall that the U.S opposed Okonjo-Iweala even though the WTO selection committee stated that she pulled the largest support by member countries.
The U.S opposition has halted the leadership race despite 163 member countries supported the decision. This is as a result of the consensus decision making.
