The governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has issued a warning to the state’s farmers and herders, urging them not to resort to violence.
Instead, he suggested that anyone experiencing a violation of their rights contact the local law enforcement office.
On Monday, Buni issued the warning while hosting the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the 17 LGAs at Government House, Damaturu for a normal meeting.

The governor, who was not there but was represented by his deputy Idi Barde Gubana, said that the strategic conference was called because of the deteriorating security situation across the state.
He asked the chief security officers of the various local governments to work with the security authorities to ensure that all citizens’ lives and possessions were safe.
Buni also charged the chairs of caretaker committees with promoting constant calm and harmony in their jurisdictions.
However, he praised the state’s security forces for their role in maintaining order and safety.
When asked about the work of traditional rulers and community leaders to resolve conflicts in their areas, Buni stated, “We equally appreciate their efforts.”
Caretaker Committee Chairmen were also asked to increase monitoring and prayer in their districts to ward against attacks from nomadic herders.
He prayed, “May Allah bring lasting peace in our state and in the country at large.”
