Ahead of the gubernatorial elections that will take place on November 11 in the states of Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has advised the staff of the Commission to retain their integrity and stay non-partisan.
This was said by Yakubu while he was touring several INEC offices to evaluate the organization’s preparations for the off-cycle elections.
In the Commission’s bulletin, this information was made public.

Yakubu stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was dedicated to conducting credible elections in the three states.
“INEC is not a political party, and it will not be fielding a candidate in the election for governor that will take place on November 11.
“All that we are going to do is to ensure that the people of Bayelsa and Imo States choose whoever it is that they want to be their governors, and it is our responsibility to protect the people’s choice,” Yakubu said. “We are not going to interfere in the process in any way.”
Yakubu also issued a call to action to the Electoral Officers (Eos) in the three states, requesting that they make certain that all Registration Area Centres (RACs) were completely activated in a timely manner so that the elections could be carried out without any hiccups.
On the day of the election, he said, the Commission will make it a priority to make sure that poll workers lived up to the expectations placed on them.
According to him, in addition to the refresher training that would be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, another training session would be held on the 10th of November. This would take place on Friday.
