Anthony Cardinal Okogie, the Archibishop of Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has given it point blank for Nigerian lawmakers of taking undeservedly from the national purse as allowance.
The man who let out his umbrage at the Nigerian lawmakers emphasized that the outrageous wardrobe allowances are too much and long way impediment to affect the country’s progress. He argued that the tide of change will be impossible in giving the country a big leap toward progress if the greed is not assuaged by the government.
Got a title for this? Yes, ‘The moral Blind Spot of the Jumbo Package’. In his speech delivery he testified to the negative effect of the outlandish priviledge enjoyed by the national Assembly. He pointed out the fact that if the country is to tread seriously on the path of change, it starts from the reduction of the outrageous salaries and allowances of the lawmakers.
Okogie added, “It does not just make sense that for instance N200 million severance package could be approved for each of the state, whereas civil servants are told, when they asked for better terms of service that the nation’s economy cannot sustain their intended welfare. The issues have always ramified.”
