The Abia State chapter of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) has taken disciplinary action by suspending its Chairman, Uluocha Nelccin Chimezuo, for purportedly engaging in anti-party activities.
The party has appointed Mr. Uzodinma Nwoko as the acting Chairman cum Secretary, pending a future congress.
In a communique issued at the party’s secretariat on 75 Aba Road in Umuahia, the State Working Committee (SWC) of the YPP cited allegations of anti-party activities against Chimezuo during the 2023 general elections as the basis for his suspension.
The motion to suspend Chimezuo and the vote of no confidence was initiated by Success Echefula and seconded by Nwakanma Dauglas during the SWC meeting.
The YPP expressed its disapproval of Chimezuo accepting the role of Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Revenue Service Mobilization to Victor Ikeji, the Chairman of Umuahia North LGA.
The party informed the national secretariat of its decision and asserted that Chimezuo’s acceptance of the SSA position rendered him unfit to serve as the party Chairman.
The suspension was grounded in the alleged violation of Section 31.14 and Article 31 of the YPP constitution.
The party clarified that it had not formed any alliance with the Labour Party and questioned Chimezuo’s reluctance to resign from the SSA appointment amid the disciplinary measures taken against him.
