A member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Maharazu Salisu Faru, representing Maradun II Constituency, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, alongside over 1,000 supporters.
Faru announced his defection on Tuesday at the APC state secretariat in Gusau, citing alleged injustice in the PDP and dissatisfaction with the leadership of the state government.
He said the decision followed consultations with political stakeholders and ward leaders across the five wards in his constituency, who reportedly endorsed the move.

According to the lawmaker, residents of Maradun II Constituency have not benefitted from the PDP-led administration in areas of appointments and developmental projects.
“After due consultations with my constituents and political associates, we resolved to join the APC because we believe it offers a better platform for progress and inclusion,” he said.
Faru also confirmed the submission of a formal notification letter to the Clerk of the House regarding his defection.
Receiving him, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Danfulani Maikatako, welcomed the lawmaker and his supporters, assuring them of equal treatment in the party.
“On behalf of the APC family in Zamfara, I welcome Hon. Faru and his supporters. You will be treated like every other member of our party. We also urge other PDP members to join us and contribute to rebuilding the state,” Maikatako said.
The defection adds to ongoing political realignments in Zamfara ahead of the 2027 general elections.
