The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has officially announced Hon. Mohammed Lawal Kurya as its candidate for the forthcoming by-election in Kaura Namoda South State Constituency.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Gusau by the State Secretary of the party, Naziru Ibrahim Rufai, during a press briefing with journalists.
Rufai explained that Kurya emerged as the consensus candidate after extensive consultations with key stakeholders and aspirants within the constituency.

He noted that although 14 individuals had initially shown interest in contesting for the position, only four aspirants eventually purchased the party’s nomination forms. The party later adopted a consensus arrangement to select Kurya as the flagbearer.
The PDP Secretary emphasised that the selection process was in line with the directives of the PDP National Secretariat, following the release of the by-election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He added that the process was transparently conducted and supervised by a five-member committee from the PDP National Secretariat, led by Nasir Mohammed, and monitored by an INEC representative in Zamfara State.
Rufai expressed optimism over the party’s chances in the by-election, pointing to recent policy achievements of the state government under the PDP as a strong factor that would influence voter support.
The by-election is being held to fill the vacant seat representing Kaura Namoda South in the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
