Zlatan Ibrahimovic has promised to clarify his future “soon” after meeting his agent Mino Raiola in Manchester.
The striker was released by Manchester United in June after suffering a knee ligament injury that could keep him out until January.
After having surgery in the United States in May, the 35-year-old will stay at United’s Carrington training base to go through his rehabilitation.
After meeting Raiola at Tattu in central Manchester on Wednesday, Ibrahimovic told photographers to expect an announcement.
He said: “There will be a very big announcement soon, it will be huge.”
Ibrahimovic has been linked with moves to former club AC Milan and Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, while sources have told ESPN FC that United have not ruled out offering him a short-term deal if he can prove his fitness.
A source with knowledge of the Galaxy’s pursuit of the striker told ESPN FC on Thursday that talks continue, though it is still unclear whether any deal will get done.
United decided against offering Ibrahimovic a contract extension with the former Sweden international initially expected to be sidelined until the New Year.
However, sources have told ESPN FC that Ibrahimovic is ahead of schedule and could return to full fitness before Christmas.
He is currently a free agent and is not with the United squad on their preseason tour of the United States.
United have already given Ibrahimovic’s No. 9 shirt to new £75 million signing Romelu Lukaku.
