President Goodluck Jonathan has the best candidate viability among all potential candidates for the 2015 Presidential Elections, NOI polls, provider of country-specific polling services in the West African region, has said in its latest report.

Jonathan got the highest viability rating, following his high familiarity score (99 percent) and high net favourability (+25). Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola got a familiarity score of 94 percent and positive net favourability +8.

Another member of the APC, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, was third on the net favourability and familiarity scores table with net favourability of 0 percent and familiarity score of 88 percent, ahead of former Head of State Muhammadu Buhari, who has picked up a nomination form for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress. Buhari could only come fourth with a negative net favourability of -2 and percent familiarity of 96 percent.

Although Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole has made it clear he has no plan of running for election in 2015, he was considered in the report and did better than several candidates who have picked up nomination forms. He followed Buhari closely with 96 percent familiarity and net favourability of -5. According to the report, if Buhari will stand any chance in the coming election, an effective Public Relations plan is needed to push his net favourability position to the positive side, to enhance his candidate viability.

His position as a former Vice-President apparently earned him 98 percent familiarity, but Atiku Abubakar was fourth from bottom of the list, with net favourability of -30.

According to NOI, 1,000 respondents participated in this poll.

“There was a fairly even distribution among males (51%) and females (49%). Most respondents were aged between 30 – 45
years (55%) followed by 31% that were aged between 22 – 29 years,” the report stated.

“In addition, the larger share of respondents reside in the North-West (24%) followed by 20% in the South-West and
15% in each of the North-Central and South-South zones. Also, the greater proportion are Self-employed traders
(28%) followed by Government workers (20%) and Students (14%).”

The list of 17 prospective candidates for the 2015 presidential election had more than 10 APC members, but had only Mr President and his Vice Nnamadi Sambo, who had net favourability of -34, as PDP members on the list.

A poll ran over the weekend by Special Assistant to the president on New Media, Reno Omokri had favoured Jonathan over Buhari.

While some Nigerians have in recent times aired their displeasure with the administration of President Jonathan, others have labelled him as Nigeria’s best president ever. The new report is expected to raise fresh discussion about the candidacy of the aspirants and what Nigerians really think about them.
