The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, also known as NASIEC, has stated that the date of August 31, 2024 for the local government elections will not be moved or altered in any way.
This reaffirms the commission’s commitment to holding the polls as planned.
The declaration was made on Friday by Barrister Ayuba Usman Wandai, who serves as Chairman of NASIEC.

He was testifying before the committee on NASIEC, Multilateral and Community Development of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for the purpose of evaluating its 2023 budget.
Wandai provided an overview of the schedule for the electoral process, noting that party primaries will be held during the months of January and February 2024 in order to get ready for the primary election, which is slated to take place on August 31, 2024.
“The elections for the Local Government will take place on August 31 of the following year, 2024. Since it is the result of legal proceedings, NASEIC holds the date in the highest regard.
According to the head of NASEIC, “Party primaries will be conducted from January to February, 2024,”
In addition to this, he brought to everyone’s attention the fact that the existing group of elected people in charge of the community’s governance would be leaving their positions on Monday, October 7, 2024. As a consequence of this, it is essential to have new elections in order to bring in new officials for the local administration.
Chairman Wandai has sent his gratitude to the State House of Assembly for the continuous support it has provided, which has helped to ensure the smooth planning and execution of NASIEC’s activities.
In addition to this, he lauded Governor Abdullahi Sule for the efforts he has made to advance democracy throughout the state.
