The new Head of Kano Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr David Iloyanomon, on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 visited the Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command in Kano for familiarisation and inter-agency cooperation.
During his visit, Mr. Iloyanomon disclosed that, as the new Zonal Head of EFCC in Kano, it was expedient for him to meet with relevant stakeholders to seek their cooperation and understanding in fostering synergy and collaboration for the effective discharge of the Commission’s mandate.
He specifically requested the Customs’ support in currency movement control at the Airport and borders with a view to ensuring that relevant evidence for prosecution are gathered and processed professionally.
He observed that the relationship between the two organisations have been cordial as evidenced in joint efforts on port de-congestion and the recent collaboration on currency movement control.
Responding, the Customs Area Comptroller for Kano/Jigawa Command, Mr. M.O Abutu said the visit was the first to his office since the beginning of this year.
He further stated that, apart from port de-congestion, which is a longstanding mutual assignment between the two agencies, there was a joint operation on textile with the EFCC which was successfully carried out last year.
He added that he has directed his officers to forward any case relating to the mandate of the EFCC to the Commission for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
He concluded that the presence of EFCC officers at the Airport is a welcome development. [EFCC]
