The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that the former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke is under critical investigation for allegedly trying to rig the 2015 elections.
There were revelations in the media that Diezani bribed officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This was revealed when the EFCC arrested and questioned the Managing Director (MD) of Fidelity bank PLC, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo for allegedly receiving the sum of $115m from the former minister.
Diezani’s son, Ugonna was said to be the one who handled the disbursement of the funds as a middleman.
The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said “We are investigating a case involving the former petroleum minister Mrs Alison-Madueke in respect of some millions of dollars she is accused of giving to INEC officials to influence the 2015 elections.”
