The Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Ltd, has assured Nigerians that the ongoing fuel scarcity and queues will be cleared by Wednesday, May 1.
The Chief Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday, stating that the company currently has an availability of product exceeding 1.5 billion litres, which can last for at least 30 days.
Soneye explained that a three-day disruption in distribution due to logistical issues had been resolved, but overcoming such disruptions typically requires double the amount of time to return to normal operations.
He also cautioned against individuals taking advantage of the situation to maximize profits, noting that product scarcity has been minimal lately.
In response to the NNPC’s assurance, the National Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Hammed Fashola, expressed optimism that the queues in Lagos and Ogun would ease off this week.
He attributed the delay to logistical problems affecting the supply chain, which were being addressed by the NNPC.
Fashola acknowledged that the queues in Abuja might persist a bit longer due to the distance to Lagos and the challenges posed by bad roads.
However, he reassured that more products would be available for lifting by marketers, leading to a resolution of the fuel scarcity issue.
