Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has signed the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority Bill into law, during an event held at the governor’s office in Ibadan.
The bill aims to bridge the gap in the enforcement of extant laws on traffic management, environmental sanitation, and other issues.
The signing ceremony was attended by the deputy governor, Bayo Lawal; Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo; Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Onio; and the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammed Abiodun Fadeyi.
Governor Makinde, in his remarks, urged residents of the state to cooperate with the government to achieve the desired Oyo State.
He highlighted the importance of enforcing laws related to protecting the environment, traffic management, and road transport, as well as the recently enacted anti-open grazing law.
Makinde emphasized the need for the new authority to address issues such as driving against traffic, street trading, and illegal waste disposal, which have posed serious challenges in the state.
He announced the appointment of Justice A.A. Aderemi as the chairperson of the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, expressing confidence that the authority would be instrumental in achieving the state’s goals for a better and more orderly society.
