Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has declared that members of the Rivers State House of Assembly do not exist, asserting that he can derecognize them as lawmakers.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of political and traditional leaders from Bayelsa State at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara criticized the state assembly members, stating that they are only existing based on his recognition, which was predicated on a Peace Accord initiated by Tinubu.
He emphasized that the Peace Accord signed with his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was a political solution to a problem and not a constitutional issue, allowing the lawmakers to continue their functions.

Fubara stated, “Their existence is me allowing them to exist. If I de-recognise them, they are nowhere.
I want you to see the sacrifice I have made in allowing peace to reign in our state.”
Governor Fubara and Wike have had a strained relationship since he assumed office, leading to some lawmakers defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The peace deal brokered by Tinubu aimed to restore peace and unity in the state.
