The Executive Chairman of Soba Local Government Area, Hon. Muhammad Lawal Shehu, has announced an increment in the monthly allowances for Imams of Jumu’at mosques within the council.
Speaking during a meeting with the clerics at the Dahiru Maigana Secretariat, Hon. Lawal disclosed that upon assuming office, he discovered that the Imams had gone without their stipends for several months, a situation he described as unacceptable.
“When I took office, I found that the chief Imams were receiving very low monthly allowances and had even gone without pay for several months. I found this situation untenable.

We began paying them for the past two months, but I realized that the amount was still insufficient given the current economic conditions. As a result, I have directed that the allowance be increased starting next month,” he stated.
Hon. Lawal also announced the inclusion of additional Imams in the monthly allowance program, emphasizing the crucial role clerics play in disseminating government policies and fostering community engagement.
The Executive Chairman commended the Imams for their efforts in promoting peace and urged them to use their sermons to guide the youth away from social vices such as drug abuse and thuggery.
Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu Bagaldi, the Chief Imam of Sakaru Jumu’at Mosque, spoke on behalf of the clerics, expressing gratitude for the Chairman’s commitment to their welfare and inclusion in governance.
He assured that the Islamic scholars in Soba would continue to advocate for peaceful coexistence and pray for the prosperity of the local government.
The initiative highlights Hon. Lawal’s dedication to strengthening community ties and supporting religious leaders in their roles as agents of social change.
