The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Lagos State Office, has secured the conviction of Ijamulisi Ayodele James for his involvement in producing falsified documents used in fraudulent United Kingdom visa applications.
The conviction followed intelligence provided by the British High Commission, which alleged that James was responsible for forging documents such as invitation and introduction letters purportedly issued by Clarivate Analytics and Thomson Reuters.
He also prepared counterfeit bank statements and payslips to support the fraudulent applications.

According to the ICPC’s prosecution team, led by Yvonne William-Mbata, investigations confirmed that James produced the fake documents at the request of Dennis Adetoye Adeniran and Awoke Nimota Omobolaji, both of whom had earlier been prosecuted and convicted in related cases in 2019 and 2025, respectively.
On August 7, 2025, the defendant was arraigned before Justice R.A. Oshodi of the Ikeja Special Offences Court on a four-count amended charge of forgery under Section 467 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C28, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
He pleaded guilty to all the charges under a plea bargain arrangement approved by the commission.
Following his plea, the court convicted him and imposed a fine of N1 million or seven days’ imprisonment for each of the four counts.
The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning James must pay a total fine of N4 million or serve a seven-day custodial term at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Facility.
The court also ordered that the convict be registered in the Lagos State Judiciary Offenders’ Database through biometric profiling and file an affidavit of good behaviour at the High Court Registry.
Additionally, the ICPC reserved the right to reopen investigations against him if he violates the terms of his undertaking, or if new facts, undeclared assets, or related corruption offences emerge.
The commission noted that the conviction underscores its determination to combat document fraud, safeguard the integrity of international travel systems, and uphold the rule of law in Nigeria.
