The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, ahead of the February 21, 2026 council election.
Wike, who described Maikalangu as instrumental in the execution of several projects in the capital city, urged residents to reward his performance with re-election.
The minister made the remarks on Sunday during the flag-off of the construction of an access road bypassing the airport’s second runway from Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki settlement, which also includes a four-span bridge.

“And let me also say, my dear people, one good turn deserves another. Now that INEC has said area councils can go and campaign officially, you all know where we are heading to,” Wike said.
He praised Maikalangu for consistently advocating for neglected communities, noting that he had persistently reminded him about the plight of Tunga Madaki residents following land compensation for the airport’s second runway.
“Now that you have a son, Maikalangu, he always keeps reminding me, day and night, to remember the people of Tunga Madaki. Please continue to press on Mr President so that we can make sure their request is fulfilled,” he added.
Wike told residents to stand by the APC candidate at the polls, stressing that the ongoing road project was a testament to his commitment.
“So my dear people of Tunga Madaki, I have handed over Maikalangu to you. When the election is held in February, by June, Mr President will be here to inaugurate this road and then we will all dance. Remember the man who remembered you during the rainy season,” he said.
The minister also urged the community to reject those who failed to prioritise their welfare in the past, assuring them that Maikalangu would continue to deliver dividends of democracy if re-elected.
