The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has refuted allegations that it planned to attack former Governor and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, during his visit to the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party described the claim as a deliberate falsehood aimed at misleading the public and heightening political tension.
“The PDP has no plan, intention, or reason to attack anybody,” the statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, read.

The party emphasized that under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, it does not condone violence or political thuggery.
“Since assuming office, the Governor has decisively dismantled the political thuggery networks established by the previous APC administration and restored peace, sanity, and order across the state,” it stated.
The PDP said its current focus is the upcoming National Elective Convention in Ibadan, scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, noting that delegates from Zamfara were already en route.
It urged the All Progressives Congress, APC, to remain peaceful and law-abiding as they welcome their leader, warning against any disruptions to public peace.
“We will not tolerate any act capable of returning the state to the dark days of violence and destruction,” the statement added.
The party further cautioned its members to avoid any form of provocation and comply with the law. It also accused the APC of allegedly mobilizing thugs to attack PDP supporters traveling to Ibadan for the convention.
“We call on security agencies to take note of this disturbing plan and act swiftly to prevent any breakdown of law and order.”
The party reaffirmed that the peace and stability of Zamfara State remain its top priority.
