The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has warned that the “Christian genocide” narrative once dismissed as exaggerated is gradually becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy due to the Federal Government’s failure to confront rising insecurity across the country.
The party issued the warning in a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, while condemning the killing and abduction of worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

Abdullahi described the attack, during which several worshippers were murdered and others, including the pastor, abducted, as yet another indication that Nigeria is becoming increasingly unsafe for its citizens.
He criticised the Federal Government for what he termed its reactive and defensive posture toward security challenges rather than adopting decisive and strategic measures to contain the crisis.
“Coming within hours of another attack in Kebbi State where school officials were killed and students abducted, this particularly brutal incident gives the impression that the government has lost control, and Nigerians now live at the mercy of gunmen emboldened by the government’s failure to act,” the ADC said.
The party expressed deep concern that the Christian genocide narrative—widely circulated by activists such as Rev. Dachomo—was gaining traction, not because it was originally accurate, but because government inaction was allowing conditions that seemed to validate it.
The ADC also faulted recent comments by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who claimed in an interview that only 177 Christians were killed in the last five years. The party described the remark as “unfortunate, offensive and dismissive,” adding that such a viewpoint reflected a worrying lack of appreciation of the scale of the crisis.
“If this represents the thinking within the Federal Government, then it explains why the administration has failed to address the problem and why it cannot be trusted to solve it,” the statement added.
