The long-running leadership crisis within the Action Alliance (AA) has been resolved, following the recognition of Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as the party’s National Chairman by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC’s decision followed a ruling of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, which ordered the commission to update its records within seven days.

The court, presided over by Justice Funmilola Demi-Ajayi, held that the National Executive Committee (NEC) elected at the party’s national convention held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in October 2023, constitutes the authentic leadership of the party.
Consequently, INEC removed the name of Kenneth Udeze from its records and replaced it with that of Omoaje, alongside other NEC members elected at the Abeokuta convention. Omoaje’s name was sighted on the INEC portal on Thursday, indicating full compliance with the court’s directive.
Reacting to the development, Omoaje, in a statement, expressed appreciation to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Josh Amupitan, for upholding the rule of law.
He said the recognition would further strengthen democracy in the country and reaffirmed the Action Alliance’s commitment to democracy, peace, progress, and national development.
The development brings to an end a protracted leadership tussle that saw rival factions laying claim to the party’s leadership.
With the legal dispute resolved and INEC’s recognition secured, the Action Alliance is expected to refocus its efforts ahead of forthcoming elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and other states.
