Chelsea interim coach Calum McFarlane has played down any injury concerns over Reece James and Levi Colwill. This comes after both players missed the victory against Tottenham, and fans have been reacting.
Announcing that João Pedro is a major doubt for the Sunderland game due to a slight knock, McFarlane stated that he couldn’t afford to risk Reece and Levi, who are just recovering from long-term injuries.
Hailing Fernández’s performance throughout the game, Calum added that he was impressed with the way the team bounced back from their FA Cup final disappointment.
His words, “Levi has come off the back of a serious injury so it was too quick a turnaround after the cup final — we couldn’t risk him tonight.
Reece is the same. We didn’t want to risk him.
It was good to get the win. It was obvious from minute one that we didn’t always have the energy we needed after the psychological and physical load the FA Cup final put on us.
I thought we deserved the 2-0 lead, and Spurs showed more energy towards the end. They had more time to prepare for the game. We just needed to dig in for the result.”
