The Benue State Police Command, in collaboration with the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, has launched the Safe School Programme to strengthen security awareness and protection in schools across the state.
The programme was flagged off at Government Model Secondary School, High Level, Makurdi, with representatives of the Ministry of Education, State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, school authorities, students and other stakeholders in attendance.

The initiative is aimed at improving safety measures within and around schools while strengthening cooperation between the police, school communities, government agencies, parents and other stakeholders.
The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, described school safety as a collective responsibility requiring the active participation of security agencies, government institutions, school authorities, parents and communities.
Nwadiogbu commended the PCRC for initiating the programme and acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, towards the implementation of the initiative.
He urged pupils, students and school personnel to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious activities or other security concerns to the police and relevant authorities.
Representatives of the state Ministry of Education and SUBEB also pledged their support for initiatives aimed at creating safe and conducive learning environments for children across Benue State.
The Benue State Police Command said the programme would further strengthen community policing partnerships and improve security around schools and communities.
The command assured education stakeholders of its continued commitment to protecting pupils, students, teachers and educational facilities across the state.
