The Abia State Government has dismissed reports suggesting that it plans to ban commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke, from operating across the state.
The government described the report as false and urged tricycle operators and members of the public to disregard the rumour.
It assured Keke operators that there was no plan to prohibit their operations, stressing that the government recognised their contribution to the state’s transportation system.
The government urged operators to continue complying with existing traffic regulations and other relevant guidelines governing commercial transportation.
It also called on residents to rely on official government channels for accurate information and avoid spreading unverified reports capable of causing confusion.
The clarification followed concerns among tricycle operators and commuters over the reported plan to ban Keke operations in the state.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining an efficient transportation system while ensuring compliance with safety and traffic regulations.
