The leadership crisis rocking the Imo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, seems to be gradually coming to an end but not without casualties.
Rising from long hours and days of meetings where all the leaders like Achike Udenwa, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha and all the elected office holders from the party in the state, the group said they have resolved their differences.
While briefing newsmen in Owerri, the party leaders denied that they were restricted from conducting the state congress by any court.
But despite this public show, sources inside the party revealed that the battle is not yet over as Senator Hope Uzodinma is wielding enormous influence that has left Emeka Ihedioha’s camp in disarray.
The source who spoke undercover said that with the new model adopted by the party as regards delegate who will be automatic voters in party’s primaries come 2019, anybody among Uzodinma and Ihedioha who takes the larger chunk of the delegates now will almost be sure of taking the Guber ticket in 2019 which is the reason why none of them is leaving anything to chance.
However, discreet investigation by HOMELAND NEWS revealed that Senator Uzodinma has succeeded in planting his men and has left Ihedioha’s in confusion prompting the former National Lawmaker and his loyalists to suggest for outright harmonisation of the list of execiutives which has been rejected by the Senator representing Imo West.
According to the source, Senator Uzodinma has completely depleted Emeka’s followership as most of his trusted allies has over this short period pledged their support to Uzodinma.
He said “I feel for Emeka who was seriously planning to take another short in 2019 but with the large heart of Senator Uzodinma and with the strong bridge he immediately built with Ohakim from Okigwe zone, the hopes of the deputy speaker is fading away faster than he ever imagined”.
With the state congress fixed for Wednesday, the 18th of May, only the outcome will bring a clear pointer as to who has won the supremacy battle that will to a large extent reveal even years before it comes, who will fly the flag of the party as they are determined to reclaim the state once known as a core PDP state.
