Renowned activist Idris Miliki has vehemently criticized Governor Yahaya Bello for the failure to hold local government elections before the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past Council Chairmen in Kogi State.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Miliki, the Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), voiced his concerns during a one-day post-2023 governorship election review meeting for political parties in Kogi State held in Lokoja on Thursday.
Miliki asserted, “Governor Bello failed the people of Kogi State by not allowing them to elect their leaders from the grassroots.”

He strongly condemned the delay in publishing the results of the local government election conducted three years ago by the Kogi State Independence Electoral Commission (KOSIEC).
As the tenure of the elected Local Government Chairmen expired on December 14, 2023, Miliki emphasized, “It is our right to elect who will lead us in our various Local Governments and not imposition.”
The activist further declared, “We won’t forgive Governor Yahaya Bello for denying us the opportunity to elect Local Government Chairmen.
He failed me, failed the people of Kogi State, and the entire citizens despite being a beneficiary of the election.”
The controversy surrounding the absence of local government elections continues to stir discontent among the populace. Stay tuned for further developments.
