Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan has counseled Nigerian girls to have confidence in themselves and actualize their visions with dedication and commitment. She gave the advice on January 22, 2014 when she received members of the Lady Mechanics Association of Nigeria in the State House, Abuja.
Patience Jonathan noted that young girls who are focused and determined are capable of excelling in whatever field of human endeavour they find themselves. She also observed that through the Lady Mechanics Initiative, young women have been equipped with skills that will enable them to contribute with their male counterparts to the auto mechanics career.
The Wife of the Nigerian President noted that the venture will be instrumental to ensuring that young girls are self reliant and are capable of becoming employers of labour. She further stressed that the initiative would add to bridging the gender gap in the auto mechanics industry which was previously dominated by men.
“There are millions of young Nigerians who can contribute meaningfully to the process of nation building, if only Government is able to tap into their abundant potentials,” she iterated.
Remarking earlier, the Founder of the Lady Mechanics Association Initiative, Sandra Aguebor Ekperuoh informed that the organization was established to empower girls and women with technical and mechanical skills to become competent in the field of automotive repairs and maintenance, saying the goal of the organization is to train about 300 girls and women annually.
Present at the occasion were: the wife of the Vice President, Amina Namadi Sambo; wife of the Deputy Senate President, Nwanneka Ekweremadu; wives of members of the Senate and House of Representatives; wives of cabinet ministers as well as the President of the National Council for Women Societies, Nkechi Mba among others.
