In continuation of the inspection of facilities in the countries bidding to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and 2021, the special CAF inspection team, last Saturday August 9 landed in Lusaka, the Zambian capital for a one week tour that will end on August 17.
The team, made up of Executive committee members Amadou Diakite of Mali and Adoum Djibril of Chad, CAF expert Paul Bassey of Nigeria and CAF Manager National teams Amr Fahmy of Egypt were met by an entourage led by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Madam Agnes Musunga and the President of the Football Association of Zambia, Kalusha Bwalya.
In a briefing before the commencement of the inspection on Sunday, the CAF delegation was told that Zambia proposes to host by making use of facilities in the cities of Lusaka, Ndola, Chilabombwe, Kitwe, Chingola and Livingstone.
The star attraction for the first day was the visit to the newly constructed 50,000 capacity Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, proposed venue for the opening and closing ceremonies.
Hotels, training pitches and health facilities in Lusaka were also inspected with head of delegation Amadou Diakite reminding the media that his team was just an inspection delegation not given to any opinion except to present a report to the Executive Committee of CAF which will meet in September to decide on countries that will host in 2019 and 2021, saying he wishes Zambia all the best of luck.
With the withdrawal of DR Congo from the Bid race, this will be the last port of call for the CAF experts after similar trips to Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Algeria and Cameroon.
