Activist and politician, Aisha Yesufu, has expressed dissatisfaction with the process that led to the selection of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat.
Yesufu made her concerns known during an interaction with party officials, where she questioned the conduct of the process and the reasons advanced for her failure to emerge as the party’s candidate.
She maintained that party leaders had made commitments regarding consultations and engagement with stakeholders, stressing that such promises should be honoured.

According to Yesufu, she was recently informed that her late entry into the party affected her chances of securing the ticket.
“I was told recently that I came in late to this party. Who does that? I have endured a lot in the last few days. My name has been dragged all over,” she said.
The activist insisted that she was not demanding preferential treatment but was seeking a transparent and credible process that would provide equal opportunities for all aspirants.
“I am not even asking for a level playing ground, I am asking for a ground,” she stated.
Yesufu noted that she would have accepted the outcome of the exercise if it had been conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
“I am ready to accept that I lost. If I lost fairly, I am ready to accept that I lost,” she added.
She further disclosed that she had refrained from publicly responding to criticisms and attacks directed at her because she remained focused on what she described as a larger objective.
The activist, however, urged party leaders to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency and accountability in order to strengthen confidence among members and stakeholders.
