The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has directed the reconvening of plenary for an emergency sitting scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo.

According to the statement, all Senators are expected to be present at 12:00 p.m. for the session.
“The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has directed the reconvening of plenary for an emergency sitting on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026,” the statement read.
The reasons for convening the emergency session were not disclosed.
However, DAILY POST recalls that the development comes shortly after the Senate, on February 4, rejected a proposed amendment to the Electoral Act seeking to make the real-time electronic transmission of election results mandatory.
The amendment was aimed at enhancing transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
The Senate’s decision has since attracted widespread criticism from civil society organisations, activists and prominent individuals, who argue that it could undermine efforts to strengthen electoral integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those who have criticised the move are former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, and socio-cultural group, Afenifere, both of whom warned that the rejection could erode public confidence in the electoral system.
