Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede has described factional Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff as an “empty barrel”.
The Sheriff faction of the party has presented businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim as its own candidate for the state’s coming governorship elections.
Jegede made the comments on Monday, September 12, 2016, while speaking at an interactive session in Akure, ThisDay reports.
“Let me tell you the fact. All those canvassing the factional PDP thing are empty barrels and should be ignored,” he said.
“This is how you will know they are unserious people: All the PDP governors are under the leadership of Makarfi; all PDP senators are for Makarfi, House of Representatives member, Makarfi, and the Board of Trustees (BoT), Makarfi. So, how would they manufacture a PDP without people, without leaders? That is how you will know that they are jesters,” he added.
The PDP is officially under the control of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee which was inaugurated after Sheriff was removed from the office of chairman on May 21.
Sheriff has however refused to vacate the office claiming that he remains a valid occupant till 2018.
