The former Super Eagles assistant coach has been announced as new head coach of FC IfeanyiUbah on Sunday, with former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorunmu joining the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club’s backroom staff.
New head coach of Glo Premier League side FC IfeanyiUbah, Daniel Amokachi, has said he decided to join his new club because they are up-to-date with players’ welfare.
Former Flying Eagles coach John Obuh, who had earlier in the season succeeded Bulgarian coach Mitko Dobrev, remains a member of the coaching staff at the Nnewi-based outfit.
Speaking to our correspondent, Amokachi said there was no way he would work with an NPFL side that cannot pay players’ salaries on a timely bases.
“I have never ran away from coaching in the Nigerian league,” said the former Enyimba and Nasarawa United handler. “However it’s not in all clubs I can coach because I cannot be in a club who cannot afford to play players or owe players for about six months. That would be against my philosophy of coaching.
“I like to demand from my players, and when you have not paid them, of course I would not be able to shout on the players or give instruction the way I want because they would be playing on empty stomachs.”
IfeanyiUbah take on Sunshine Stars at the Rojenny Stadium in a rescheduled Match Day 22 fixture on Monday, with Amokachi expected to take charge of the team for the first time.
