Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has forwarded two executive bills on Urban and Regional Planning and the State Council on Public Procurement and the Bureau of Public Procurement to the State House of Assembly for its consideration and passage.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi made this public at Tuesday’s plenary while reading two letters from the Governor.
According to Hon. Adekumbi, the first letter was seeking for “a bill for a law to make provision for Urban and Regional Planning in Ogun State and for other matters incidental thereto or connected therewith”.
The second, he said was seeking for “a bill for a law to establish the State Council on Public Procurement and the Bureau of Public Procurement as the regulatory authority responsible for the monitoring and over sight of Public Procurement, Harmonizing the existing Government Policies and Practices by Regulating, Setting Standards and Developing the Legal framework and Professional Capacity for Related Matters”.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has committed the bill titled “HB NO 37/OG/2013, The Ogun State College of Nursing Establishment Law, 2013″ into two House Committees on Health as well as Education, Science and Technology for further consideration.
Speaking before the bill was committed to the Committees, the Majority Leader, Hon. Israel Jolaoso said that the bill was essential to provide legal framework for the academic activities of the colleges of nursing in the State, adding that the proposed law would make provision for the setting up of a Governing Council for them.
In their various contributions to support the bill, Honourables Remmy Hassan, Job Akintan, Oludaisi Elemide and Olusola Sonuga, opined that it would streamline the mode of operation of the colleges as well as diversify various courses at the institutions spread across the State, stressing that this would further boost the quality of health personnel being trained in the colleges.
In his submission, the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Aina Akinpelu disclosed that the bill was meant to restructure academic programme in the colleges in line with the five cardinal programmes of the present administration, explaining that it would reduce the stress being encountered by the students in obtaining higher certificates.
Committing the bill to the House Committees, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adekunbi expressed optimism that they would ensure that it was given required legislative attention.
