The Anioma Council of Chiefs has declared its full support for the creation of Anioma State from the current Delta State, stating that the move would address long-standing agitations in the country.
The traditional rulers emphasized that the geopolitical location of the proposed state was inconsequential, as their primary focus is achieving a state for the Anioma people.
Speaking after their meeting on Tuesday at the residence of the Ndokwa Nation’s chairman, Chief Matthew Udi, the Ezeudo 1 of Abbi, the monarchs expressed appreciation for the advocacy led by Senator Ned Nwoko, describing it as a significant step towards realizing their collective dream.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the council resolved to write an open letter to relevant authorities and commence an awareness campaign to garner widespread support for Anioma State.
The statement reads in part: “Every state is independent regardless of geopolitical zone, and as such, we fully support the creation of Anioma State, even if it is located in the Yoruba geopolitical zone. All Anioma people want now is a state of their own.”
Reaffirming the overwhelming support witnessed during the stakeholders’ summit hosted by Senator Ned Nwoko in Asaba, the traditional rulers pledged to continue praying for the lawmaker’s unwavering commitment to the Anioma cause.
Highlighting the benefits of state creation, the council stated: “We have to weigh the losses and gains, and the gains are a million times more.
Anioma State creation would bring freedom and opportunities, including having our own governor, deputy governor, SSG, senators, House of Representatives members, commissioners, more LGAs, and increased federal representation.”
The chiefs emphasized the importance of securing a brighter future for their children, even if they themselves may not fully enjoy the benefits.
“Even if we are old, our children will not be old. They will benefit from the struggles we embark on today. That is why we wholeheartedly support Anioma State creation,” they concluded.
The Anioma Council of Chiefs reiterated their commitment to pursuing all necessary steps to achieve the statehood, calling for unity and cooperation among all stakeholders.
