Felix Morka, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has refuted claims that the ruling party is behind the internal crises plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Responding to allegations made by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, Morka stated that the APC is far too occupied with governing the country to involve itself in the internal affairs of the opposition.
In a statement issued on Friday, Morka described Governor Mohammed’s accusations as baseless, urging him to focus on resolving the issues within his party rather than blaming external forces.
“Rather than pointing fingers at APC for its endless woes, Mohammed and his partners in crisis should eat the humble pie, search within for solutions, or save the country the trouble and wind down altogether,” Morka said.
The APC spokesperson was firm in his assertion that the PDP’s ongoing crisis was self-inflicted and a reflection of its inability to manage its internal affairs.
He questioned the opposition’s capability to govern Nigeria, citing its struggle to handle its own organisational challenges.
“Crisis is endemic to the PDP and dysfunction is deeply engraved in its institutional DNA. The PDP is the sole author of the intractable crisis that bedevils it,” Morka remarked.
“A party so grossly inept and incapable of governing its own internal affairs cannot possibly be trusted with the important task of governing Africa’s most populous country.”
Morka went on to highlight the PDP’s long-standing history of internal disputes, noting that its leadership crises predate the formation of the APC.
According to him, the opposition party has long been entangled in leadership struggles, many of which have led to the ousting of its national chairmen.
“Governor Mohammed is either a poor student of his party’s history, or he is choosing, mischievously, to turn that history on its head,” Morka stated.
He listed the names of former PDP national chairmen, including Barnabas Gemade, Audu Ogbeh, Vincent Ogbulafor, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Bamanga Tukur, Ali Modu Sheriff, Ahmed Makarfi, Uche Secondus, and Iyorchia Ayu, all of whom were removed amid internal wrangling.
He added, “If not crisis, what else do we call the track record of leadership imbroglio? How else do we describe the chaotic rise and fall of the party’s National Chairmen over the years?”
Morka also argued that the PDP has long been a “cesspool of sleaze, crisis, and dysfunction” and emphasised that its issues have nothing to do with the APC.
According to him, the opposition’s current predicament is simply a continuation of its long-standing internal struggles.
Governor Bala Mohammed had earlier alleged that the APC was behind the PDP’s ongoing troubles, suggesting that the ruling party had a hand in orchestrating the crisis to weaken the opposition.
However, Morka’s response firmly dismisses these claims, attributing the PDP’s woes to its own internal failings.
As the political rivalry between Nigeria’s two leading parties intensifies, this exchange between Morka and Governor Mohammed further highlights the deepening divisions within the PDP and the defensive stance of the APC.
With the next general elections on the horizon, the tension between these political heavyweights is expected to increase further.
