The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Alhaji Saidu Baba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the bye-election into the Yobe State House of Assembly.
INEC had on Saturday conducted a bye-election to fill the Nangere constituency seat, which became vacant following the death of Adamu Degubi.Degubi, who was killed by unknown gunmen in June 2012.
Announcing the results on Sunday, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Malam Idris Yusuf, stated that Baba polled 14,360 votes to beat Shuaibu Ibrahim of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who garnered 7,851 votes.
The returning officer also stated that 23,320 votes were cast, out of which 1,089 votes were invalidated.
