Mr. Osita Okechukwu, a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has attributed the challenges faced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to its leaders, urging them to take responsibility for the party’s predicament.
Okechukwu made this assertion in response to Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP, who had vowed to resist any attempt by the ruling APC to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
The statement from Okechukwu comes at a time when prominent PDP members, including former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, and Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Chuka Odom, have resigned from the party.

In a statement made available to the media on Sunday, Okechukwu argued that blaming the APC for the PDP’s troubles was misplaced, emphasizing that the root cause of the PDP’s challenges lies within the party itself.
He criticized the PDP’s failure to adhere to the presidential rotation convention between the north and south, as stipulated in the party’s constitution, and highlighted the entry of defectors from the PDP into other parties as a sign that Nigeria is not at risk of becoming a one-party state.
Okechukwu called on the PDP to engage in introspection and address its internal issues, rather than resorting to blame games.
He emphasized the need for the party to fix its internal democracy, adhere to zoning conventions, and address issues of planlessness and squandermania.
He concluded by stating, “Truly PDP needs soul searching to make amends, rather than sweeping its troubled faction under the carpet.”
