The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the August 9 elections in the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has proclaimed that his main rival, the incumbent governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, will soon be jailed.
Omisore said this in Osogbo, the state capital on Thursday at a programme organised by the PDP to present him to the public as its flag bearer for the governorship polls.
The PDP candidate, in apparent reference to Aregbesola’s description of him as an ex-prisoner, who could not unseat him, accused the governor of forging some documents.
Although he did not disclose the document which Aregbesola allegedly forged, he maintained that the governor would be jailed for this act.
It would be recalled that Aregbesola had while speaking at a rally, said that a former prisoner, in veiled reference to Omisore, could not unseat him, no matter who was supporting him.
He said, “We know that Ogbeni Aregbesola didn’t win the election but was installed by Salami. We have to push him out on August 9.
“The documents he forged, the case is in Abuja; and that is why he is fretting because he knows that he has begun his journey to the prison, where he belongs.
“I won’t engage him in any altercation because we are not mates. Aregbesola was a common thug when we were mobilising members for the Alliance for Democracy”.
The PDP governorship candidate alleged that the present All Progressives Congress, APC, government of Agregbesola had accumulated huge debts for the state as a result of some projects, which he claimed the governor was using as a conduit pipe to siphon the state’s resources.
Omisore also warned the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, against coming to Osun State to manipulate the governorship poll.
In his reaction, Aregbesola described Omisore as a drunken man, who should not be taken seriously.
The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in Osun, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, who spoke on behalf of the governor, said that the PDP would fail in its plans to rig the poll even as he stressed that people of the state were fully behind Aregbesola.
Oyatomi said, “At last, Omisore let the cat out of the bag. It is no secret anymore that the PDP at the very highest level, has, in Omisore’s own words, ‘concluded arrangement to remove Ogbeni Aregbesola from office’, making the PDP participation in election itself only a sadistic formality”.
