The Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has expressed confidence that the Lukarawa terrorist group will soon be eradicated, citing the intense military operations currently targeting the group.
Speaking to State House reporters after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Monday, Oluyede revealed that the military’s efforts are yielding results but noted a significant challenge: the terrorists fleeing into neighboring Niger Republic to evade the Nigerian military’s offensive.
“We have to get in touch with them [neighboring countries] because you know it affects them too. That is why we all need to come on board to tackle them,” he said.

“We are hitting them hard at the Nigerian end, and what is expected is that once you hit them hard here, they will flee to Niger Republic.
Now that Niger Republic is coming on board, it means very soon, Lukarawa will be a thing of the past.”
Oluyede emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in combating terrorism, noting that insecurity transcends borders and requires a united effort among nations.
The Lukarawa terrorist group, a newly emerging threat, was recently discovered to have established camps in 10 local government areas across Sokoto and Bauchi states.
Initial reports revealed that the group had set up camps in villages along the Nigeria-Niger border, including Gwanaguano, Mulawa, Wassinya, and Turigaic communities, before infiltrating Nigeria.
The group is reported to have established strongholds in communities within Gudu and Tangaza Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
They are known to communicate in Hausa, Fulfulde, and Arabic languages.
During his interaction with reporters, Oluyede also reiterated his commitment to ensuring a safer Nigeria under President Tinubu’s leadership.
“My visit is work-related and also to reassure Mr. President of my dedication to making Nigeria better in terms of security.
I intend to explore new approaches that will yield different and better results for the safety of all Nigerians,” he said.
The military’s efforts to eliminate Lukarawa signify a broader push by the Tinubu administration to tackle insecurity and restore stability to affected regions.
